Lafayette Baseball Shows Signs of Life; Softball Still Bumps Along the Bottom

Lafayette College’s usually woeful baseball team has shown some spark this year. The Leopards’ double-header sweep of Lehigh University recently could well be the highlight of the 2018-19 Lafayette sports year.

The baseball team is 11-18 overall, but 6-4 and tied for second with Army in the six-team Patriot League. The Naval Academy leads the league at 11-3.

Lafayette is never going to make a big splash in baseball, which is a fading collegiate sport in the Northeast, but give credit where it’s due. This is a team that needed a late surge to win eight games total a few years ago.

The softball team is a different story. Lafayette is 1-8 in the league, 4-26-1 overall, and of course last among the seven Patriot League schools that offer the sport. It’s the same old story in Easton, Pennsylvania.

There’s nothing to see here, just more of the same.
