PPL Corp. plans to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 70 percent by 2050, the company said in its sustainability report. That means an average reduction of 1.75 percent annually over 40 years; the baseline for emissions was set at 2010.
The Allentown, Pennsylvania-based utility also said in a statement that it plans to “strengthen” its power grid so it can resist the effects of climate change.
“As we pursue this strategy, every action we take and every decision we make is focused on moving energy forward,” PPL Chairman and Chief Executive Officer William Spence said in the statement.
