Lafayette College’s baseball team took a spot in the Patriot League playoffs Saturday by splitting a double-header with Holy Cross, while Lehigh University dropped two games across the Lehigh Valley and was eliminated.
The post-season appearance makes baseball the most successful 2018-19 team sport at Lafayette, where all teams routinely have losing seasons.
Lafayette took fourth-place in the six-school league; the top four teams make the playoffs. Lafayette will have a losing overall record for the year (18-29 now), but with a sweep of Army today, the Leopards could be 13-12 in the league regular season. Today’s double-header makes up for the two games canceled yesterday because of rain.
Lafayette will play at first seed Navy next weekend. Holy Cross and Army also made the playoffs. Lehigh and Bucknell University, the other two league teams, did not make it.
